Simmons Mattress Gallery

The Simmons Mattress Gallery in Vancouver and the Simmons Mattress Gallery in Coquitlam are not the only two Simmons Mattress Galleries in the world, you know. There are other galleries all across Canada.

In fact, there is a Simmons Mattress Gallery in Halifax, NS. They are friends of ours.

A gentle rivalry we have, however, is whose Simmons Mattress Gallery website gets to the top of Google.

Now, we’ve always been busy optimizing for essential words, like Vancouver mattress store and Vancouver mattresses, Vancouver mattress sale etc. So it never really occured to us to optimize for Simmons Mattress Gallery. But it makes sense. After all, once someone sees that we are offering up to $2000 off Beautyrests in the paper ($2898 to $898) – they will want to make sure that they find the right Simmons Mattress Gallery. Hint – we are not in Halifax – we are based out of Vancouver.

Either way, if you are looking for the nearest Simmons Mattress Gallery, and you live in Vancouver or Coquitlam – then you’ve come to the right place.

Mattress Stores In Other Parts of the World

It’s fun to go to other countries to see how mattress stores are set up in different parts of the world. By swapping notes, and making a few observations, sometimes it is possible to see room for improvements in the way we run our mattress stores in Canada.

Here’s a mattress store in Buenos Aires that we checked out recently. Notice how the front counter is the first thing you come across. It’s a bit backwards from our Canadian style, where you see the product before the business. Overall, the feel is more like a diner, as opposed to a fancy restaurant. Personally, as a Canadian, I find this a bit too “hard sell” but what do you think, as a consumer? Would you prefer the ‘let’s get down to business’ layout of a South American mattress store? Or do you like to try a few beds out before being approached at all? Inquiring minds want to know.

A few other differences we noted.

1. They are still using the old Simmons logo. (Not the new red one, but the one we have in our Simmons Mattress Gallery logo.)

2. They have plants. The jury’s still out on whether or not we think this is a good idea or not.

3. It’s a lot smaller. Stores are much tinier in Buenos Aires.

Celebration of Light

This Saturday, the sky will once again be lit by exploding pyrotechnics, as the Celebration of Light returns to English Bay. This will be the twenty-first year Vancouver will host the event. It has become one of the must-see spectacles of the summer and major draw for tourist booking their Vancouver holiday.

The organizers of this year’s event are hoping to make a little more revenue by selling grandstand, V.I.P. seating at English Bay. The tickets are $45. The early bird seats have already sold, but Tickets Tonight is still selling.

Other changes include a shorter program. Instead of the standard four nights of explosions, this year’s festival will have only three; July 30, August 3rd and August 6th. Canada will perform on the final night.

A panel of judges chosen from the events corporate sponsors will evaluate the competing countries.

For more information on the Celebration of Light, check out their website. There is a really interesting section on the history of fireworks. There is also a full explanation of how the barge is loaded and prepped for each night of action. Apparently it takes a crew of 16 people, three days to prepare the show. There may be 2,000 to 4,500 bombs (that’s what they call them) used in one night’s performance. That’s a lot of gunpowder.

And just remember, if you are coming down to watch the fireworks downtown or at any of the beaches around English Bay, leave the alcohol at home. This is a family event and we want to keep it going for years to come. Enjoy Vancouver.

The Lights of Summer

The Canadian Soup Strainer

Another successful Movember has come and gone. Men all over the world spent the last month growing out the hair on their upper lip to help raise awareness and donations for prostate cancer.

The totals from registered donations have been tallied at the Movemeber.com website and Canada has come out on top.

Donating over 19 million, Canadian companies and private citizens have shown their support for finding a cure for prostate cancer by opening up their pocketbooks.

Canada also had the most registered mustaches; 118, 727 of them. The single greatest haul by a corporation was CIBC. The banking firm was able to raise $251,356 towards the cause.

Well done Canada.

And thank you ladies, for putting up with all that extra facial hair.

If your man has become too attached to his lip warmer, it may be time to offer a few suggestions, verbally or with props.

Simmons suggests leaving his razor in the toothbrush holder as a subtle hint.

If that doesn’t work, try telling him how cute you thought it was that Justin Bieber grew one as well.

Still no effect? Bring out the big guns. Stop shaving your legs.

It’s for a good cause.

Congratulations once again Canada. You rocked those crumbcatchers!
