EAT! Vancouver Food and Cooking Festival
If spending Friday nights on the couch watching “Chopped” with your significant other is the ideal date night, prepare to be excited. The EAT! Vancouver Food + Cooking Festival returns this month. The festival is Canada’s largest foodie extravaganza. This year, it will be held at BC Place over the May long weekend.
The consumer food expo will include celebrity chefs, food from local restaurants, cookbook author appearances and friendly competition.
Attendees will be able to sample food and beverage items from the Bites of Vancouver and Wine and Spirit Tasting, restaurant pavilions.
There will also be a Food Network stage, where stars of the reality food channel will speak. This year’s presenters are Chef Chuck Hughes and Chef Anna Olsen. Local cooks Bal Arneson (The Spice Goddess) and Rob Feenie will also talk.
There will be small cooking classes, where new methods will be taught to amateurs and professionals. There will be classes on liquids and the appropriate wines to pair with a meal. And here will also be the opportunity for consumers to talk directly with the manufacturers and growers of local foodstuffs.
The competition portion of the festival will include two fields: Chocolate Showpiece and Cold Culinary. The cold culinary portion has a number of different subcategories. The application deadline for entering the competition is May 20th.
Prices for each day of the event are: adults $16, seniors $14 and youth $9.
Bring an open mind and an empty stomach.
