Have Bed Will Travel
In Buenos Aires, in the summer, the weather is warm night and day. While being homeless is never a good thing, the down-and-outs in Argentina at least have one added luxury (we’ll use that term loosely) that you won’t see in other countries – they bring their mattress with them.
You can find mattresses in the parks, in the schoolyards, and next to the supermarkets with the gear and carts of the homeless nearby.
In Canada, it’s simply too cold to sleep outdoors. In Vancouver, maybe, but there it rains too much. I’m not really sure why the homeless here like to bring their beds with them, but it does make the experience just a little less worse.
Not sure if they have shelters in BA, maybe that’s the difference. They also don’t have that pesky mattress Vancouver issue of bed bugs either.
It makes for a pretty good lean-to keep the rest of their gear protected.
