Missing the Moment
Parents everywhere look forward to those many ‘firsts’ that all children experience as they grow from drooling infants to self-empowered teenagers.
One of the big ones, that shows up on most parent’s top ten, is the first time their child rides a two-wheeled bicycle.
Letting go of that back seat and watching your child balance their way down the alley is a moment of both exhilaration, at their step towards independence and sadness, at the thought of their diminishing need for support.
Lately, however, parents have been handing over that precious moment to young professionals, in the form of bike lessons.
Local companies like the upstart Pedalheads Bike Camp, are teaching children as young as three how to ride a bicycle in a safe and controlled manner.
The company offers lessons at eight different levels, so children can continue to improve their riding and build on their awareness of safety issues.
The Pedalheads camps have been so successful that founder, Claudia Sjöberg, has now opened camps in Victoria, Calgary and Edmonton.
Sadly, this success means that more and more parents will miss one of those important firsts.
The reasons for outsourcing this moment are probably time, or lack there of. With less leisure time to spend with their kids, parents are concerned that their children might miss important life skills. The Pedalheads camps provide a friendly, non-rushed atmosphere that a single parent might not have the time to afford.
With this and other firsts lost to third parties, parents should try and make the most of the precious small moments that they spend with their young ones.
Reading before bed is an excellent activity to reclaim some of that lost time.
Simmons Mattress Gallery would like to offer our support figuratively and literally to this nighttime activity.
All children love to be read to and we would like to make that experience as comfortable as possible.
Stop by a Simmons Mattress Gallery to view some of the finest beds available. We want you and your child to share some quality time on a bed that echoes the care and love you provide everyday for your children.
Do not miss out. Make time and enjoy these earlier years and all the firsts that come with it.
